Fat Shark's HD Camera
with onboard recording!

fs-hd1-1Think you have seen it all?  Think again!!  The Fat Shark HD Camera (FS-HD) will change the way you fly FPV. Normally when you fly FPV you would take the video signal from your receiver and push it into some sort of video recorder like a Handy Cam, or digital recording device.  That works fine - BUT - any static that is delivered by the video transmitter will also be recorded by the recorder.  Well imagine being able to record in full 720p, 60fps in beautiful 16:9 wide screen, whilst still seeing a perfect 4:3 image in your goggles.  Well now you can!!

hd1-2The secret here is that the FS-HD records its 720p 16:9 HD video on board to a micro SD card, but at the same time processes the video out to be standard 4:3, so you still get the full screen image in your goggles.  What's more, it will not record any of the static and interference you might get from  your transmitter, as the recording is done onboard and prior to it being transmitted.  How cool is that!!

And just when you think it can't get any better - it does... All of this weighs in at only 38 grams! WHAT??... yes 38 grams!!

Recording takes place onboard the plane (720p 60fps) onto a micro SD card.  The recorded HD image is 90 degrees FOV and The AV out is full 4:3 screen for video piloting (no black bars).  The FOV of the AV out is 70 degrees.   The dimensions are 30mm X 90mm.

Below are the answers to some common questions.

  • The largest SD card that the camera can take is 32Gb (theoretical as 32Gb MicroSD is not available yet). successully tested with 16Gb.
  • When card is full, the recording stops. But the camera doesn’t shut down and will maintain AV out (so you can keep flying).
  • 1Gb gives you about 20 minutes. So 8Gb will record about 2.5 hrs. 16GB about 5 hours
  • The camera is currently NTSC. But the software is upgradeable. a release to upgrade and add a PAL/NTSC selection is coming
  • The 4:3 AV is cropped (i.e. it’s the center portion of the 16:9 HD image). The FOV of the AV out is 70 degrees. The FOV of the HD is 90 degrees.

This camera is completely compatible with all video transmitters, and can be used as a stand alone HD DVR.
